Karamba Security and Samsung SDS to Offer Korea-First Certified Wallpad Solution for Smart Home Security
HOD HASHARON, Israel, October 22, 2024 – Karamba Security, a world leader in end-to-end product security, together with its integration partner in Korea, Samsung SDS, have announced the certification of XGuard by the Korean Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) to secure smart-home Wallpads against cyberattacks.
The global demand for smart homes is on the rise. Wallpads are wall-mounted tablets that enable homeowners to control their homes remotely. Exposed to remote communications, Wallpads have become a prime target for hackers. For example, a Korean cybersecurity expert illegally accessed & distributed private videos from 400,000 homes via vulnerable Wallpad cameras. The hacker was caught and has recently been sentenced to four years in prison.
As a result of such attacks, the Korean TTA has published a set of cybersecurity regulations that require Wallpad manufacturers to secure their devices and harden them against cyberattacks.
Recently XGuard was certified by the Korean TTA to be the first software-based solution for Smart Home security in South Korea, and it is in widespread use in homes in Asian metropolises and other global locales.
In compliance with common regulatory requirements, XGuard hardens Wallpads against cyberattacks, thanks to its seamlessly-added allow list, IP Tables protection, and added VPN configuration protection.
Karamba configures network elements to enforce/ lock down needed behaviors (for example, encryption and Firewall parameters), and XGuard’s File Protection and Allowlisting ensure that a hacker cannot modify configuration files or binary code.
XGuard’s File-protection configuration file allows specifying files that will have restricted operations and access during runtime. Selected applications, identified by their hashes, can be granted access to restricted operations on the protected files.
The suite’s Allow-list enforcement component protects the device against dropped malware that may be used for remote code execution, and against the execution of files that have been tampered with. All executables are checked against the XGuard Allow List, including OS and application files, shared objects (libraries), scripts, and (where relevant) Kernel objects.
Other controls and tools available as part of the XGuard Suite include Control-Flow Integrity (CFI); a backend for event reporting and analysis; and custom system-health monitoring.
XGuard, integrated & distributed in Asia by Samsung SDS, can be integrated “Bolt-on” into ready-for-production systems, or it can be embedded (“Built-in”) at build time – running in the Kernel or in the User Space – avoiding integration efforts close to production time.
